Bypass ZeroGPT with 99%+ Success Rate
ZeroGPT is the most widely used free AI detector. Teachers, employers, and clients use it daily to check for AI content. SupWriter beats it with a 99% bypass rate — 99 out of 100 texts passed in our test.
The ZeroGPT Problem: Popular but Flawed
ZeroGPT has become the default AI detector for millions of people. It's free, it requires no signup, and it gives you a result in seconds. That accessibility has made it the go-to tool for teachers checking student essays, hiring managers screening cover letters, and clients vetting freelance submissions.
The problem is that ZeroGPT's accuracy is significantly lower than its reputation suggests. Independent testing has documented false positive rates between 15% and 25% — meaning up to a quarter of genuinely human-written texts get flagged as AI. A Stanford study found that ZeroGPT disproportionately flags non-native English speakers, raising serious fairness concerns.
But here's why it still matters: the people using ZeroGPT don't know about these accuracy problems. When a teacher pastes your essay into ZeroGPT and sees "85% AI generated," they're not going to question the tool. They're going to question you. The real-world consequences are the same regardless of whether the detector is right.
How ZeroGPT's Detection Works
ZeroGPT uses a perplexity-based detection model. In simple terms, it measures how "surprising" each word is given the words that came before it. AI-generated text tends to have low, uniform perplexity — the model always picks the most likely next word, creating predictable patterns. Human writing has higher and more variable perplexity because people make unexpected word choices, use idiosyncratic phrasing, and write with inconsistent rhythms.
What ZeroGPT doesn't do well:
- No sentence-level scoring. ZeroGPT gives you a single document-level percentage. It highlights sentences it thinks are AI, but the highlighting is inconsistent and often flags the wrong sections. This makes it easy to game with mixed content — but also means it can flag an entire document based on a few triggering sentences.
- No multi-model detection. Unlike Originality.ai, ZeroGPT doesn't run multiple detection models in parallel. It uses a single scoring approach, which makes it fundamentally easier to bypass once you understand what it's looking for.
- Slow to update. ZeroGPT's model updates lag behind newer LLMs. When a new model like GPT-4o or Claude 3.5 Sonnet launches, ZeroGPT takes months to adjust their detection, while premium detectors update within weeks.
- High false positive rate. ZeroGPT flags formal writing, technical documentation, and non-native English at disproportionately high rates. If you write in a clean, structured style, you might get flagged even without using AI at all.
How SupWriter Bypasses ZeroGPT
Given ZeroGPT's relatively simple detection model, SupWriter handles it with ease. The same statistical rewriting that beats Originality.ai and Turnitin makes ZeroGPT a non-issue.
SupWriter introduces natural perplexity variation throughout your text — the exact signal ZeroGPT uses for detection. Sentence lengths become more varied. Word choices shift from the most probable (what an AI picks) to more natural alternatives (what a human would actually write). The transitions between ideas become less formulaic.
The whole process takes under 25 seconds. One pass is more than enough for ZeroGPT. While premium detectors like Originality.ai occasionally need a second look, ZeroGPT's simpler model means SupWriter's first output is virtually guaranteed to pass.
Test Results: 100 Texts Against ZeroGPT
We tested 100 AI-generated texts in March 2026. Each was processed through SupWriter once and then scanned with ZeroGPT. No retries, no cherry-picking.
Methodology: 100 texts generated with GPT-4o and Claude 3.5 Sonnet (50 each). Content types: blog posts, academic essays, marketing copy, and short-form social content. Single pass through SupWriter, then submitted to ZeroGPT.
| Content Type | Texts Tested | Passed | Bypass Rate |
|---|---|---|---|
| Blog posts (500-1500 words) | 30 | 30 | 100% |
| Academic essays (800-2000 words) | 30 | 30 | 100% |
| Marketing copy (200-800 words) | 20 | 20 | 100% |
| Social media posts (100-500 words) | 20 | 19 | 95% |
| Total | 100 | 99 | 99% |
The single text that was flagged was a very short social media post (127 words) that scored 12% AI on ZeroGPT. Short texts give any humanizer less material to work with, and ZeroGPT tends to be more aggressive with shorter content. Still, 12% is well below the threshold most people consider problematic.
For comparison: before SupWriter processing, the same 100 texts averaged 87% AI on ZeroGPT. After processing, the average dropped to 3.1% AI. The median was 2%.
ZeroGPT vs. Turnitin: A Different Challenge
Students often conflate ZeroGPT and Turnitin, but they're very different tools. ZeroGPT is a standalone free detector anyone can use. Turnitin is an institutional platform that integrates with your school's LMS, compares submissions against a massive database, and analyzes writing patterns over time.
SupWriter bypasses ZeroGPT more easily than Turnitin (99% vs. ~96-97%) because ZeroGPT's detection model is simpler. But if your school uses Turnitin, don't assume passing ZeroGPT means you're safe. They check different things. SupWriter handles both, but the challenge level is different.

Who Relies on ZeroGPT
ZeroGPT's free access makes it the default choice for people who don't want to pay for detection. That's a large and varied group:
- K-12 and undergraduate teachers use it as a quick first check on student submissions. It's fast, it's free, and it gives them a number they can point to in conversations with students and parents.
- Hiring managers and recruiters paste cover letters and writing samples into ZeroGPT before interviews. If they see "75% AI generated," that candidate often gets filtered out — fairly or not.
- Freelance clients who don't want to pay for Originality.ai or Copyleaks use ZeroGPT as a free alternative. The detection is weaker, but the consequences of flagging are the same.
The common thread: these are people making real decisions based on a flawed tool. You can't control which detector someone uses to check your work, so you need to pass all of them.
