What Is Scribbr and How Does It Detect AI?

Scribbr is a paid plagiarism and AI detection service built on the Turnitin engine. Originally known for citation checking and proofreading, Scribbr expanded into AI detection in 2023 by licensing Turnitin's detection technology. • Student-focused market. Millions of students worldwide use Scribbr, particularly in Europe, Australia, and North America. If you're a student checking your own work before submission, Scribbr is likely one of the tools you've encountered.

The detection accuracy is strong because it inherits Turnitin's model. In our independent testing, Scribbr flagged raw GPT-4 text 91% of the time and Claude output 88% of the time. Those numbers mirror Turnitin's performance almost exactly — confirming they share the same underlying detection engine.

How SupWriter Handles Scribbr Detection

Since Scribbr runs on the Turnitin engine, bypassing Scribbr means bypassing Turnitin. SupWriter was engineered from the ground up to handle Turnitin's detection model, which means Scribbr is covered automatically.

Every time Turnitin pushes an update (which Scribbr inherits), we verify our humanization algorithms still achieve 99%+ bypass rates. This continuous testing loop means SupWriter stays ahead of both Turnitin and Scribbr simultaneously.

Scribbr Bypass Test Results

We tested SupWriter against Scribbr in March 2026 using 80 AI-generated texts across multiple content types. Each text was humanized once with SupWriter and scanned through both Scribbr's free and paid detection tiers.

The single flagged text was a 300-word short assignment that Scribbr scored at 24% AI. The short length meant fewer sentences for SupWriter to work with, reducing the statistical room for natural variation. Even so, 24% would pass most institutional thresholds (typically set at 40-50%).

Results were identical between Scribbr's free and paid tiers. The paid version provided more detailed sentence-level scores, but the overall AI probability matched. If it passes the free check, it passes the paid check — and vice versa.
